NEW YORK (AP) A 22-year-old New York Ranger is in serious condition after a chlorine gas attack in New Jersey on Saturday.
A source with knowledge of the incident told the Associated Press that he was attacked in the middle of the night on the streets of Camden and that he sustained burns and facial abrasions.
The source said the incident occurred around 8 p.m.
(5 a.m., ET) Saturday in the city’s Chelsea neighborhood.
The victim, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital where he was listed in serious but stable condition, according to the source.
No arrests have been made.
The victim is not believed to have been in the area on Saturday night.
The NHL confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday afternoon.
The league said the player suffered minor injuries, and the league also said that an investigation is underway.
No one else was injured.
The New Jersey Police Department said in a tweet that they received a call from the Camden Police Department Saturday night after receiving reports of an incident involving an individual in the Camden and Camden Townhomes.
The Camden Police tweeted that no one was injured, but that a report had been filed.
No arrests have yet been made, the Camden Township Police Department tweeted.
